Gloves that fit small hands!
My neice loves wearing these. It's not easy finding garden gloves with rubber fingers that fit a preschooler, but these seem to work. They're not bulky, but protect small fingers from thistles when she helps out.

Customer Review

All I can think to say about it.
I read as many reviews on push bikes as I could before ordering this and wanted to give a comprehensive review after having for a month. I did appreciate the comment suggesting just leaving the pedals off a standard bike until our child is ready for pedals, but I think we did well getting this for under seventy, including shipping, and we'll be able to sell it for half that, or better, after our two kids have outgrown it. I was willing to go as high as eighty for a used push bike, and was very happy to find such a deal for a new one.We ordered this for our first child and she loves it. She is 3.75 years-old and a little tall for her age.She was very excited to unpackage and assemble it with me, which was a snap, and she rode it on our laminate flooring that night. The design is such that when the bike is on its side, only the tires and the rubber handlebar grip touch the floor, i.e. no wooden parts or bolts ding my floor when it falls over. We haven't had any...

Product Description

This wooden Training Bike offers the most effective, fun and safe way for a child to learn to ride. Top to learn more

Designed for children from two years old and up, Smart Gear Balance Bikes allow children to learn the balance and motor skills necessary for biking, safely and naturally, without relying on training wheels. The two-wheel, pedal-free bike allows kids to run the bike along and eventually learn to coast with their feet up. This natural and kid-oriented approach to biking helps kids develop the confidence to balance the bike while moving and liberates them from the crutch of training wheels--so that they can bike earlier.

Coming in renewable birch wood, the Classic Smart Balance Bike features comfortable rubber grips, a cushioned leatherette seat, and a limited steering radius to prevent jackknifing. The pneumatic wheels provide a softer, more resilient ride, and are equipped with longer fill valves to make it easier to secure the pump to the tire. The spoke-less wheels are designed for greater safety--to prevent small legs from getting caught when in motion. A five-position adjustable seat with a height range from 12.5 to 17.5 inches allows the bike to grow with your child for years of use. Finally, a unique, integrated carry handle on the frame makes it easy for an adult to carry the bike to and from the car, and also allows a child to push the bike along more easily.

Key Features:

  • Pneumatic (inflatable) rubber tires with extra long tub valves
  • Spoke-less wheel discs
  • Rubberized handle bar grips
  • Limited steering radius
  • Cushioned leatherette seat
  • Unique, integrated carry handle
  • Intended for ages two years old and up
  • Five-position adjustable seat height--from 12.5 to 17.5 inches
  • Maximum weight of 60 pounds
  • Dimensions: 35 by 15.5 by 22 inches (LxWxH)
  • Made from replenish-able birch wood
  • Formaldehyde free glue
  • Non-toxic paints and lacquer
  • Carton made from recycled paper with water based ink printing

Sustainable Construction:
Smart Balance Bikes are made from birch wood that has been harvested from a replenish-able source. The bikes are built using formaldehyde-free glue as well as non-toxic paints and lacquer. The carton the bike comes in, is made from recycled paper with water based ink printing.

About Balance Bikes:
Traditional toddler bikes with training wheels don't necessarily train or teach a child how to ride a bicycle. The training wheels do not allow kids as much opportunity to feel the motion-propelled balance of two-wheel biking. By contrast, two-wheel balance bikes allow the child to run the bike along and learn to balance as they develop speed and confidence. As the child grows confident with their forward motion, they begin to lift their feet off of the ground and balance the bike as they coast forward. If the bike starts to fall, kids can regain their balance quickly and easily by dropping their feet to the ground.

Nice balance bike with no advertisement on it
I just got this bike in the mail for my daughter yesterday. I went with this one because it is not too expensive and because it has no advertisement on it. Walmart and Target are selling a similar red wooden balance bike for 54 dollars, but it has this huge Elmo face on the front. I considered the Skutt too, but went with this one for no real particular reason other than I liked the looks of this one over the Skutt. My daughter was EXTREMELY excited. We just got back from 6 months in Hungary where this type of bike is very popular. Our daughter just turned 2, and the bike is a little bit big for her. She needs to grow about an inch more. The materials seem very good. The only unfortunate thing, which we resolved, was that when the bike came, although it was extremely easy to put together, the front and back tires would not inflate. We suspected the inner tubes had holes, and low and behold, when I took them both out (I can change tires on bikes easily), I found the front tube had a...

Poorly built knockoff of LIKEaBIKE
The Smart Gear Balance Bike is one of many knockoffs of the LIKEaBIKE. We chose the Smart Gear over the other copies (and the original) because of its low price, not wanting to pay $200-$300 for a wooden push bike. Well, you get what you pay for.Immediately after purchasing it, I had to replace both tubes. Whoever assembled the wheels at the factory must have used a tool that ended up slicing both tubes. Then, within a few weeks with barely any use, all the plywood started to delaminate--first the wheels, then the main frame, then the seat column. If you look carefully at the plywood, you can see that the inner layers of wood are extremely low-grade.Once my son grew enough to actually use the balance bike, the axle bolts kept unwinding themselves out of their mating/binding posts. I had to apply nail polish on the threads to stop the unwinding--an old trick I use when wrenching my own stable of 13 bicycles. By the way, the rear axle bolt and its binding...

Great "Real" Kid's Bag! Field-tested Colorado Rockies
Our family just returned from a weekend camping trip near Steamboat Springs, CO. My girls, 3 and 5, were excited to use their real sleeping bags (an upgrade from Winnie the Pooh or Dora bags really made for indoor sleepovers). Inside the bag, there is a little pocket with velcro to hold a small stuffed animal. Stowing a travel pack of tissues would've been ideal as we all got a souvenir cold. The real test came the first night out . The sky was clear with millions of stars and a near full moon so we left the fly off the tent. I never realized how insulating a tent rainfly is...we awoke to 37 degrees! The girls were toasty warm, happy and cute as bugs in their grasshopper bags. The length of the bag is great as they will be able to use them until we're ready to upgrade to adult down bags.Wonderful product, really fast shipping from Amazon.

GREAT BAG...WARM...VERSITLE...LIGHT...DURABLE
The Eureka kids 30'grasshopper is an awesome sleeping bag, and a great value. We have two girls ages 6 and 8 who we purchased the sleeping bags for. On an week long camping trip in early spring twice the temperature dipped into the thirtys, and once into the low thirtys. Our girls stayed toasty warm and comfortable in their grashopper mummy bags. These bags also pack well, and have a good zipper. For the money these bags simply can't be beat.

Nice warm bag
I got this bag for my 5-year old for our trip to Yellowstone NP this summer. He stayed warm and toasty even though temperatures dropped into the low 40's and we awoke to frost a couple of mornings. He loves the bag!

About Eureka
Though the exact year is unknown, Eureka’s long history begins prior to 1895 in Binghamton, New York, where the company still resides today. Then known as the Eureka Tent & Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products--most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen--as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.

The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM "tent cities" just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the company’s annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.

In 1960, Eureka’s new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.

For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.

Eureka tents have also traveled as part of several historic expeditions, including the American Women’s Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent history, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. During the 1999 expedition, the team made history finding the remains of George Mallory, but the complete mystery remained unsolved. Returning in 2001 to search for more clues, the team found amazing historical artifacts which are now on display at the Smithsonian.

So far so good
We took this bag to Moab in October and it kept my 4 year old warm and toasty. It will be a great summer bag for mountain camping as well. I really like that we can draw the bag up so just her face is exposed - We know her head stays warm throughout the night. It's a little long for a 4 year old but she can use it for a while. I saw the review that the zipper gave out...hope that doesn't happen but we've only used it for a few camp trips.

girl's sleeping bag
My 7 year-old daughter loves her new sleeping bag. The one big concern that I have is the drawstring at the head used to draw the head area tight. My daughter moves around a great deal when she sleeps and somehow got the drawstring wound around her neck. It was tight enough that she could not untangle herself. It took my husband and myself quite a while to remove it...thankfully it was not tight enough to restrict breathing. I would definitely recommend removing the drawstring if you purchase this item.

cute and cozy, but questionable workmanship
My daughter LOVEs this mummy bag!! It is cute. It is just her size (she's 6 and half. It was plenty warm for her on it's maiden voyage to Yosemite where the nights dipped down into the high 30's. In fact she was so warm that she slept in just a tee shirt and thin leggings. The size looks like it will fit her for a couple more years... she is an average size kid and she has about an extra 10 inches or so of length in it.However... the stitching around the mummy drawstring is coming apart at 2 points. Luckily I'm an avid seamstress so I can fix it all easy enough. It also isn't coming apart anywhere that really affects the integrity of the bag, but that could change as it gets more use. This would probably be a 5 star bag if it weren't for the shoddy seaming. It would probably be a 4 star bag if it was coming apart in only one area ( mistakes DO happen), but to be coming apart in 2 spots during it's first use is quite disappointing to me.

One of the companies in the “technical” clothing vanguard was Patagonia, whose founder, Yvon Chouinard, had revolutionized climbing gear in the 1960s. The clothing we buy for our children to wear outdoors comes from a wide variety of manufacturers in many styles, sizes, and price points. The company, based in New Zealand, has manufactured outdoor clothing in merino wool since 1994. In its company history, Patagonia calls itself “the first company to teach the concept of layering to the outdoor community,” and my consumer’s experience backs up their claim. Buying large works especially well for base layers, giving children several years of use before they outgrow an item.
